On the occasion of its reestablishment after World War II 75 years ago, the Deutscher Künstlerbund looks back on the work of female artists since 1950 and undertakes a critical analysis of the obstacles that still exist today with regard to true equality for women in the art world. The resulting exhibition Our Voices – Auf den Spuren Bildender Künstlerinnen (Our Voices – In the Footsteps of Women Artists) at the Wilhelm Hack Museum (Ludwigshafen am Rhein, May 24–September 14, 2025), curated by Dr. Almut Hüfler, presents twenty-four positions of women artists from this 75-year period. Using a spectrum of different media – from painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, textile art, and installation to photography and video – it highlights both the individual biographical situations of female artists and diverse aspects of the changing position of women in society. The publication Auf den Spuren Bildender Künstlerinnen (In the Footsteps of Female Visual Artists), published by INTERVALLVERLAG, presents the 24 contributions of the artists participating in the exhibition, honors 10 outstanding biographies of female artists from the Deutscher Künstlerbund (German Artists’ Association) from the last 75 years, and documents the two-year research project that preceded the exhibition.
